Dreamweaver CS5 Takes Too Long, Even Forever to Load Large Website – Please Help!

Have you ever had the problem of loading a large website from Adobe Dreamweaver and had it take forever to load? Well, here’s what to do.

Keep in mind that this is for Dreamweaver CS5, but I’m sure that there are a lot of similarities with other versions.

Unclick Synchronization Information

Unclick “Maintain Synchronization Information.” Under Servers, click the server, then Advanced tab. From there, unclick Maintain Synchronization Information.”

Click “Use Passive FTP”

Unclick “Use Passive FTP” under the Servers tab, then on the specific server. Under the Basic tab, click “More Options,” then uncheck “Use Passive FTP.”

Unclick Enable Cache

Unclick “Enable Cache” from Advanced Settings/Local Info after you click “Manage Site.”

I hope this saves you a lot of time and headache from large sites loading. Enjoy!

what about the drawback of this actions?
    – You will not be able to sync on ftp
    – You might not be able to perform site wide searches if cache is disabled

    • 1. So you won’t be able to sync on FTP. If you are the only one working on a site, or have the practice to first download an updated version of the site beforehand, it’s a non-issue.

      2. You should still be able to perform site-wide searches, except that those searches might take longer.

It’s a matter of weighing the pros and cons. I for one don’t want to wait a half hour to load a site every time, especially when I am stick-handling multiple sites in a given time frame and every second counts. The above solution for me therefore works.
